SHEARER AND EMPLOYER.

(Per Pbess Association.) Christchurch, July VI. ■ A conference between the representatives' of the Canterbury Sheepowners .and the Canterbury Shearers'- Union will be held here on Wednesday. Mr Laraey, general' secretary, states that he feels sure the Canterbury I moil does not intend to withdraw anything in regard to the price, and. whatever the . intentions of -the tnion are >u meeting the Employers' Union, will not shift from the demand for 20s per hundred. Mr Waddell, secretary of the Canterbury Union, states that the conference will discuss all matters, including the price.- Tlie Union-had its own opinion as to the worth of the work, but wanted to come to a .settlement. The Union does not want things hung up iu an unsatisfactory condition, but wants to give the farmers and everyone a chance. Mr Waddell. secretary of the Can- • terbury .Shearers' L'liion, in an interview,- states that he agrees with the statement of Mr Laraey. general secre- ' tarv of tlie Shearers' and W oolshed Employees' Association, that there is no compromise possible on the subject ol the price of shearing, but he considers it desirable to give the employers an opportunity of meeting the men personally. Considering the stand the men have taken on the question of price during the last shearing season, in view of tlie resolutions passed. on the same subject, at all the meetings held, and. the definite arrangements made with New Zealand, shearers now in Australia, there can, he states, be no possibility of the employers' misunderstanding the position. There is certainly none in the minds of the men. r lhe Canterbury Union agreed to the conference in the interests of both parties, and because they were anxious to bring about an amicable settlement without delay, and lie did not doubt that this can lie arranged on the basis of 20s per 100.
