Wellington, July 11. —To-day's Business. — With the Address-in-Rcply out of the way and sessional committees appointed, Parliament will now settle clown to the serious business of legislating- This week will see many second readings, and the private member with am bit ions io till the Statute Book will have his chance. Probably the most interestinu item of to-day in the House of Representatives will lie a statement bv the Prime Minister upon the connection of the firm of K. A. Smith and Co. with the Hijih Commissioner's oflice. Legislative Councillors will resume the Address-in-Reply debate on Wednesday afternoon. Domestic Servants. — A deputation of members will wait on the Prime Minister to-morrow to the importation from Kndalid -,>f suitable domestic servants. —The Financial Statement. — Members are endeavoring to iorecast the date on which the Financial Statement will come down, hut there is_ no reason behind any oi the speculation. Friday has been mentioned, but a week later would probably lie nearer the mark.
