London, August 31. Bishop Gore has abandoned his intended .proceedings against Canon Hanson in connection with the latter's preaching in the Rev. J. H. Jowett s Free Church Institute at-Birmingham.

[The inhibition by the Bishop of J Birmingham, Dr Gore, to Canon Hanley Hanson against conducting a service at the Digbeth Institute a few months ago excited some discussion in that city. The Bishop stated that the vicar of St. Gabriel's, in which the institution; is situated,, formally protested to him against Canon Hanson preaching in his parish. As he believed the vicar to be witliin liis rights, he felt it his disagreeable duty to support him. Canon Hanson declined to admit interference, and he has inhibited liim, but Canon Hanson ignored his inhibition. Digoeth Institute is conducted under the auspices of Carr's Lane Church, of which the Rev. J. H. Jowett, president-elect of the Free Church Council, is pastor.]
