DESTRUCTIVE FIRES.
CHARITABLE HOME BURNED. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.] (Per Press Association.) Received September 1, at 8.55 a.m. New York, August 31. A fire broke out in the Saint Malachi Home, Long Island. The bodies of seven children have been recovered, and it is feared that more fatalities occurred.
(Per Press Association.) Ashburton, August 31. Drapery and tailoring premises m Tancred street were badly gutted this evening bv a fire, the origin of which is supposed to be a defective chimney. The building, which is of wood, and will have to be re-erected, is owned by Mr W H. Robinson, and is insured tor £4OO in the South British Office. The stock, though very little burnt, was badly damaged by water and smoke, and' is insured for £IOOO m the Roy a "Exchange Office. . - Gisborne, September 1. \ cottage, owned by Devery a,nd occupied by . Bush was destroyed by fire this morning, and the inmates had a very narrow escapeV The insurance was: In the South British £2oo and in the National £125.
