LOCAL MARKETS. Oamaru Mail Office, Monday afternoon. Despite the fact that the Home market is in a quiescent state, there has been no drop in prices. Merchants are not buyers at present, because they hope for a di-op, but there is at his distance 110 pronounced justification for that hope. lhey are evidently fairly well stocked up and can at present afford to stay out of the market on the off chance of a fall. Australia's new crop is being quoted now and a private wire gives its value at 3s lO^d, while the last year's crop retains its value. In this district there is hardly a line to be picked up, and even South Canterbury can supply but very little more. Aware of this fact, farmers who still hold lines are standing out for 4s 4d at bandy sidings, and there appears every prospect of this price being- realised, for millers 'must have wheat, and some few of them are anxious inquirers. The sales negotiated during the week were all made on a basis of about 4s 3d to 4s at, a bandy siding, and further purchases are likely to realise fully this figure. Oats are dead. There was one sale of which we heard last week of 150 sacks of Gartons at Is 8d and siding, but this is no criterion of the value of oats, for the transaction was not made along the usual lines. Potatoes continue to improve slightly 111 value, and there is quite a mild demand still for the 'West Coast and Wellington for freshly-picked lots. During the forthcoming week the best quality will bring from £4 15s to £5 5s f.o.b. We quote at 6iding, net-t: Wheat.— Milling, 4s to 4s 3^d. Oats (nominal). Potatoes.—£4 15s to £0 10s.

DUXKDIN- HORSE SALE. Messrs Wrisht, .Stephenson, and Co. renort as follows For last Saturday's sale there was a better entry of both draught and litrht harness horses thnn for some time past, and as there were a number of useful sorts amonnst them a good Bile resulted. There was a very full attendance of the public, ;uw* competition was -ood for all animals that could be designated serviceable, especially for dranchts. Most of the draughts were useful sorts, although not big in fact, they were what misjht be termed good plough horses ; and although no fiLniTCfi can bo recorded, yet, considering their eiv.e, reallv good values were obtained. In the li«ht harness section there were a few irood beasts forward, but most of them were too old and stole and on the light side for what is required at this season of the year. Buvers are on the lookout for' horses fit 'to ao into immediate hard work, consequently business in this class was limited. The demand for firstcl'iss voun" draughts is very keen, the supnlv falling far short of buyers' requirements. StTonc upstanding li'.'ht harness horses are also badly wanted. Quotations : Superior voting draught- geldings, at from £45 to £SO : extra good do (prizewinners). at from £SO to £55; 6upeiior voiino- draught mares and geldings, at from £ls to £2O: well-matched carriage pairs, at ftom £7O to £100: strong epring-van horses, at from £25 to £3O: milk-cart and butchers' order-enrt horses, at from £lB to £35 : light hacks at from £8 to £l3 : extra good hacks and harness horses, at from £l3 to £25 : weedy and good do, at from £5 to £7.

PROPERTY SALES. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Limited, report- having held'a land sale in their rooms on Satuixlav last, when -they offered at auction two well-known properties, one being a- grazing property of 2050 acres belonging" to Messrs Graham Bros., of Herbert, 0 and the other being a- farm of 325 acres at TotaTa belonging to Mr G. Woodward. There was a, very large attendance. The first property put- up was that of Messrs Graham Bros., but for this there was no bid. Air Wood head s farm £26 was the best bid, but not being up to the owner's idea- of value the property was withdrawn. Private negotiations are now being carried on, and it- is quite possible that one or other of the properties will be sold shortly.
