The Besses o' th' Barn Band by tlieir brilliant 'attainment; have for over a century added' materially to the musical history of Great Britain. For the past 25 years, the Besses have experienced! an uninterrupted succeesion of triumphs under the masterly control of that celebrated conductor and composer, Mr Alexander Owen, who accompanies them on the present Australasian tour. Mr Owen, by virtue of his genius as a v band technician, has won endless fame in the musical world, and wears many irsignias and decorations personally bestowed' upon him by the 'hands of royalty. The Besses' artistic treatment of the world's best music, the standard of which is never found in the repertoire, of tho average band, has classed them as a concert band. "Tho Ride of the Valkyries," for example, Is one of their approved- selections, and the intricate weaving of the "Tauiuiluuser" overture prevents no difficulties to those masters of horn, cornel, trombone, and euphonium. The visit of this famous band will surely prove of great value to local bandsmen", especially at the present- juncture, when every competing bandsman is practising assiduously for the approaching baud contest in Clrristchurch. We understand that a movement is mi foot to extend a hearty welcome to the Besses o' tli* Bam upon their arrival in Onmaru.
