Tesult of injuries sustained while playing football, the jury found that death was the -result of an accident at a football match. TIMARU. July 15. NELSON. July 15. Tho trouble at tlio Puponga coal mine with the miners is assuming an acute phase. The men, by a resolution of the union, ceased work last Wednesday, claiming payment of wages said to be overdue, and desiring a regular pay day. Mr Hayward, tho company's attorney, arrived at. tho mine yesterday, and at once ordered payment, but a difficulty arose as to the method. A few accepted payment, and the mine temporarily closed down. A meeting of the local union was held, and it was resolved to seek the advice of other unions and bring tho matter before the Arbitration Court. Tho action of the men is regarded at Oollingwood as precipitate, as they were receiving high wages, the individual monthly cheques amounting to £2O. INVERCARGILL. July 15. Nicholas Johnston, a very old resident and former Mayor of Invercargill, died suddenly this morning. Ho was for many years proprietor of the Club and other hotels, but retired somo time ago. He was apparently in the best of health last night. Deceased, who took an active part in local politics, was extremely popular, and his sudden end has caused'a painful sensation.
