MEETING AT BAN GIT AT A. (Timaru Herald.) The annual meeting of the Rangitata. Coursing Club was held at Rangitata yesterday, the scene of the gathering being about one and a-half miles from the railway station. The weather was unfavorable, but nevertheless there was a yery fair attendance. The value of the stake was £2O for winner, £lO for second dog, and £2 10s each for next two dogs. Ihe nomination fee was 255. Forty-six dogs were entered, and consequently a considerable amount of interest was taken in the sport The Club has a plumpton, which although on the rough side serves its purpose well. The hares, with few exceptions, were very strong, but owing to their not knowing the escapes well, such a large, number were killed that it was impossible to finish more than the first two rounds. Some hares will be caught first thing this morning, and this afternoon the remaining rounds will be decided. Mr J. Mitchell, of Oamaru, acted as judge, and his decisions met with general satisfaction. Mr W Fox, of Christchurch, was a capable slipper, and Mr E. Bull, the Club's secretary had arrangements well in hand and kept the events up to time. A licensed booth was on the ground, and it was very well patronised, a considerable number of those present being visitors from the Ashburton district. The following are the results : First Round. Mr Sumpter's Czar beat Mr E. Bull's Young Bushman. Messrs Heanie and Wades Grenadier beat Mr Muir's Goodshot. Mr Eddy's Blucher beat Mr J. Gilchrist s Young Barney. Mr L. Brown's What-ho beat Mr U. R. Wise's Diamond Jubilee. Mr A. Eden's Sovereign beat Mr J. Ashworth's Nellie Moore. Messrs Hearne and Wade's Uela beat Mr L. Storey's Fealey. Mr R. Robinson's Red Runner beat Mr James Seckie's The Arab.
