[ NORTH OTAGO JOCKEY CLUB. | President, Mr C. W. Reid; vice-president, Mr A. Potter; stewards, Messrs C. Christie, W. Gardiner, junr , R. J. Hendrie, J. Muir, A. A. M'Master, J. O'Brien, J. F. Reid, W. Gardiner, senr., R. A. Glenn, E. P. Lee, J. R. Mitchell, J. G. Nicolls, A. Potter, C. W. Reid; hon. judge, Mr J. G. Nicolls ; lion, clerk of course, Mr W. Gardiner, junr.; hon. treasurer, Mr E. P. Lee; hon. surgeon, Dr Garland; hon. clerk ' of scales, Mr A. Bruce Christie; hon. timekeeper, Mr C. Christie; starter, Mr C. O'Connor; handicapper, Mr J. E. Henrys; handicapper for trotting, Mr H. Brinkman; judicial committee, Messrs C. W. Reid, J. F. Reid, E. P. Lee, A. A. M'Master, and Jasper G. Nicolls; secretary, Mr G. M. Procter. For the second day of the winter meeting the weather improved jnaterially, and though the heavy rain which fell' during the night had soaked the ground and made it spongy, the overhead conditions left little to be desired. As a result the attendance was a large one for a second day, and this brings the takings at the gates up to a record with a substantial margin. For the two days the gate returns were £IOO, a result for which a new system pf checking tickets instituted by the secretary was perhaps largely responsible. The racing was again good, though there were no close finishes, and the bad state of the course made satisfactory 6tarts difficult. There was good investment on the tot-alisator, there being put through the machines £1436, or an- increase of £272 on the investments for the second day, and £570 for the two days, as compared with the 1903 winter meeting. Following are the comparative returns for the last few meetings:— £ £ £ Spring meetm, 1902 1257£ 1189 2446 A Winter meeting 1903 1308 1164 2472 Spring meeting 1903 1479 i 1614£ 3094 Winter meeting 1904 1606 1436 3042 'the Club lias evidently turned t'iie corner of the way leading for prosperity, and the fact that the meeting just concluded was a most profitable one despite the unfavorable conditions should be a source of gratification to the painstaking secretary (Mr G. M. Procter) and the various officials of the Olub. The starting of Mr C. O'Connor and Mr Nicolls' judging gave every satisfaction, Though, as we have mentioned previously, the condition of the course militated against the efforts of the former. The representatives of the Ambulance Brigade were in attendance both days, but fortunately their services were not reqnired. Mr M. Doyle had the booth and Mr J. Ross' solid refreshments were voted excellent. We wish, on behalf of our representative to acknowledge the courtesy of the officials, particularly that of the secretary and the totalisa.tor steward (Mr M. J. Hanning).
