Major Taylor, gave- a taste of his quality in the invitation scratch lap race. In qualifying for his heat, while -watehing some other cracks, he "allowed Chalmers to get ahead,, but with a fine spurt managed to make a dead heat with Chalmers. Time, 30sec. The final resulted : Major Taylor 1, Don Walker 2, Gudgeon 3. Leaving Gudgeon, the two champions were together a hundred yards from nome. Taylor failed to qualify in the Summer Wheel Race. He ran fourth in his heat, the result of shepherding by other competitors.
