ANTHRAX AT WOODLANDS.
By Telegraph. Invercargill, January 7. Two more cows have died at Woodlands from anthrax. The outbreak has been traced to bones brought to the Bluff by the Aparima from India, and cause and effect have been more clearly demonstrated than in anv previous outbreak in the colony. The bags "containing the bones were placed in line in a paddock where the cattle graze, and some were spilt on the grass. The germs may have been licked up or taken direct from the bags. A sample of the bones has been forwarded to Mr Gilruth to determine the presence of anthrax bacillus. A portion of the consignment was steamed in India and the balance here, but not thoroughly. Sterilising plant based on modem principles, capable of allowing the steam to permeate a vat thoroughly, is essential at the chief ports.
