Waimate Rifles.

The annual meeting of the Waimate Rifle Volanteers was held on Wednesday night. Forty-five members were present, and Captain Coltman occupied the chair. The balance-sheet and auditor's report were read and adopted. The balancesheet showed the income of the company for the past year to be L 446, while L 398 were paid out, leaving a credit balance of L6B. The Shooting Committee's report was read. It made several recommendations to the company. It was decided that coaching be allowed in future, and to give a championship medal a3 formerly j also that the system of firing in two classes be abolished. Four nominations were received for two non-commissioned officers to act on'the Finance Committee with the officers. A show of hands resulted In Color-serge*n£ Sanders and Sergeant Smith being chosen. Corporal Collett was elected Secretary unopposed, and Color-sergeant Sanders custodian of stores. Eight nominations were received for a Shooting Committee of five, and the following were elected :—Lieutenant Inkster, Sergeant Smith, Sergeant Mines, .Lance-Corporal Goldatone. and Private Nelson. The matter of voting money for prizes was left over till the season Is about to commence. The question of holding the anncul social was left over till after the opening of the drill-shed, and It was decided to present the prizes at the opening of the drill-shed on the 27th April. A resolution was passed recommending the Finance Committee to procure Morris tubes for use in the shed in winter. Mr H. N. Hertslett was elected an honorary member. Votes of thank 3 were passed to the donors of prizes, to Messrs Francis, Studholme, and Wergis for the use of the range, to the officers, to the retiring Shooting Committee, and to the Secretary. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
