Dr Gindera, medical [superintendent of the Government Sanatorium at Rotorua. has resigned, owing to ill-health. Young Fisher, who suicided at Te Ore farm, near Maaterton, was a native of London, 25 years of age, and lately oome to the colony. He had given way to drink of late.

A cable message from Home states that the charterers of the barque Lake Ontario (Messrs Gracie, Beasley, and Co., of Liverpool), have effected reinsurance on 16th September at a premium of 55 guineas. The vessel is now 185 days out from Liverpool to Wellington. The matter of the late Major Kemp's will and his connection with the Horowhenua Block was again before the Native Appellate Court to-day, bub another adjournment had to be made. It was stated that it was intended to prove the will, and one of the counsel engaged in the case remarked thab there were the makings of a very pretty little litigation. The scow Whangaroa, during a gale on Monday evening, touched Evans reef while beating up for Kapiti. She is a vessel of 132 tons, and made the run from Newcastle in only nine days. She was nob much damaged. DUNEDIN. November 2. The Presbyterian Synod was engaged to-night in discussing the question of union with the Northern Church. Addresses were first given by the Rev. G. Webster (moderator of the Northern Church) and the Rev. Mr Scorgie. The Rev. J. Gibb moved the reception of the reporb of the Union Committee, and thab clauses be considered seriatim. The discussion on the general question was nob concluded. In moving the motion, the Rev. J. Gibb withdrew and apologised for making use at the Assembly last year of words to the effect that the antl-Unionists were keen-eyed, subtle and unscrupulous. CHRISTCHUROH. November 2. The Agricultural Association Committee to-day adopted the reporb of the subcommittee, which recommended thab the Association should combine with the Industrial Association to erect an Agricultural and Industrial Hall. To raise the necessary capital, ib is proposed to promote a company with a nominal capital of L 25.000. AUCKLAND. November 2. A Carters' Union has been formed, and shorter hoars and larger pay are demanded. At a meeting of manufacturers and Importers at the Chamber of Commerce It was decided to telegraph to the Government Htrong disapproval of the Conciliation and Arbitration Act Amendment Act, particularly as to the preference for anion labor. Weekly special trains are to bo run experimentally to Rotorua, leaving on Friday evenings and returning ab 8 o'clock on Monday mornings. The Auckland Operative Bootmakers' Industrial Union of Workmen desire to bring in the southern award, and cite 30 employers. Several conferences proved fruitless. Some points were conceded, but there are points In the southern award to which the Auckland employers will nob agree.

A wet forenoon promised to stop.the Inveroargill Cycling Club's spring meeting, but a brisk westerly wind came np at noon, and drove the rain away The attendance was only moderate', J. Hanley won the Club's championship of twomiles by 20 yards, with G. Cuthbertson second ; time, smlns 27 l-sbh sec. Hanley also won the mile open handicap, V. Ekenstern (20 yards) second* R L.
