Oamaru Harbor Board.

The usual monthly meeting of the Harbor Board was held to-day, when there were present: Messrs J. S. Holmes (chair), Rose, Borrie, Orr, Macpherson, Allan, and Dennison, The Standing Committee reported that it could not recommend any alteration of the water, and also that it could not advise that any dredging be done in the harbor at present. The report was adopted, Mr Dennison remarking that he thought it strange that the Committee recommended that no dredging be done. A large amount of correspondence was read between the secretary and the secretary to the Post Office re the bonds for the L 30,000 debentures being in LondoD, and in reply to Mr Dennison, the chairman stated that there was not likely to be any loss to the Board, and that there was only one tender that there was likely to be any doubt about. The Post Office had agreed to forgo the interest after the 25th inst., in order that the Board should not pay double interest, and also recoup the Board for any expense through the delay. The secretary to the Akaroa Harbor Board telegraphed, asking when the dredge was likely to go to Gisborne and the charges per day, aB his Board desired that she should call at Akaroa to do some work there. The secretary had replied that the Board had nob finally arranged yet with the Gisborna Harbor Board. A letter was read from the Receiver intimating that the matter of the floating of the L30,00Q loan had been brought before his directors, and that there would be no objection to the matter being brought before the court. In reply to Mr Dennison the secretary said that no reply had been received from the Borough Council re the maintenance of Harbor street. The secretary was instructed to communicate with the Akaroa Harbor Board asking the class of work the dredge would be required to do there. Messrs Bruce Christie and Co. wrote stating that some iron bark timber was about to be procured by the County Council foj: the Kakanui bridge, and suggested that this would be a good opportunity for the Board to geb some for the piers. Ib was pointed oub that some timber for requirements was already coming by steamer, and that if the Board procured any it might lie for some time. It was, therefore, decided not to get any more. In reply to Mr Dennison the Secretary Baid that the tenancy on, section 9a, the coal yard, would be up on October Ist, and that nothing had so far been done since the sale regarding it. Mr Dennison said he considered that, compared with Mr Vernor's yard, Lls was a cheap rent. Mr Townsend used to pay L4O for it. He would say that, unless the present tenants would take it at Lls per annum, the Board should let them vacate ib. After discussion, Mr Dennison moved that nothing be done respecting it until the Ist October. The matter was left in the hands of the Standing Committee to bring up a report r at next meeting. The Board then roae.
