(by telegraph.) Christchurch, May 18. Business throughout was fairly satisfactory, except in cattle, which showed little or no improvement. Cattle.—226 head of fat cattle were yarded, the bulk being good useful steers and heifers. Best steers sold an L6to L 7 15s, ordinary to good do L 3 10s to L 5, heifers L 3 15s to L 6 15s, cows L2 10s to L 6 5s ; per 1001b, prime beef 15s to 17s 6d, medium to good 12s 6d to 14s 6d, cow and inferior 7s 6d to lis. In stores nearly all were aged cows, and were taken for preserving at 10s to 255. A rather ; better disposition was shown to buy any- • thing at all good in the dairy class.
