THE OAMAIIU TOURNAMENT. After the lanch adjournment yesterday Jake Boreham and Lucas met and the latter beat the local player twice. A regrettable dispute arose between J. A. Boreham and Anderson. Only sonie 3 moves had been played in a game before dinner, forming the 11-16 Cross, or Slip Cross as it is known. When the umpire called time Boreham had a man to take and he alleges that it was mutually agreed that they need not seal the move. Instead he handed into the empire the game as follows : "11-16 Cross, Boreham-Ander-son," which the umpire sealed, not being privy to the alleged agreement. On returning the umpire opened the paper and called upon Boreham to move 11-16 in the Cross game—a very natural reading of the paper handed in. This, of course, was an impossible move, and Anderson, who denies the existence of any understanding, promptly claimed the game, which the umpire was compelled to award him. An effort was made to arrive at a settlement of the matter and both players have consented to replay the game, which, as indicated, was in a very early stage, if the other players, after considering the matter, are agreeable. The question will be settled this evening and meantime the game i 3 entered against Boreham. Sim and Lecrccett played two good games, the first taking 3i hours to finish. Both games were ultimately drawn. The second game was a single corner and the following was the finish ; Leggatt (White)—l2, 15, 18, 22, 30, 32 : and Sim (Black) —I, 3, 7, 20, 21, 23, "White to move : 15 10. 7-14, ISO, 20 24. 22-18. 24-27. IS-15, 27-31. 15-10. 31-26, 9-6, 26-22, 6 2, 22-17, 2 7, 17-13, 12-S, 3-12, 10-6, 1-10, 7-14, 13-17,14-IS, 30-23, 17-22, and the position was a draw. Lee and Murray worked an Old 14th into a Switcher which was drawn, the second, a Bristol, wa3 won by Murray. Browniee and Hannah scored a win each, the former getting home on his favorite Doable Corner, but losing the Cross. Gibson and Butterfield each scored one, a Fyfe and a Cross, in their duel. Crook, who had been playing well, wenc off color and lost both games to Scott. He also lost both games to J. A. Boreham. Flannery and Macphersoa and Blair and Souness scored draws. In the evening Laggitt and Lucas played a draw and Boreham secured a couple of wins from Lee. Anderson and Scott divided as did Crook and Butterfield. Crook finished a disastrous d<y by losing a game through a bad mistake. Murray drew a Bristol and won a double corner from Browrlee. Sim lost bis first game to Hannah.
