County Council Conference.

At the County Councils' Conference Mr Grammond said the Premier had stated .that the Local Government Bill would not be ready before Friday, and he could not give the Conference an advance copy before the Bill was introduced into the House, Mr M'Nab moved : " That with a view to afford local bodies immediate relief the Government be asked to amend the Counties .Act to enable local bodies to borrow money to pay off overdrafts; also, that as soon as local bodies shall have paid off their overdrafts it shall not be lawful to incur new liabilities as overdraft which shall at any time exceed the amount of the anticipated revenue at that particular date."
As all the members had not arrived the debate was adjourned until Tuesday. The Conference then adjourned. On the Counties Conference resuming this afternoon, it was announced that the. Premier declined to furnish a copy of the Local Government Bill until it had been laid before the House. The Conference therefore adjourned till Tuesday.
