South School Committee.

~* The adjourned meeting of the above Committee was held in the chairman's office last.evening, when there were present :• Messrs Creagh (chairman), Penfold, Grenfell, Singleton, Mackintosh, and Reid. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The matter of the winter holidays was brought up. It was decided, under the present circumstances, to consider the case as affecting the South School only, and it was shown that the children would be greatly benefited by a holiday before finally settling down for the work of the annual examination. Ultimately, Mr Singleton moved, " That the school close from Friday, sth inst., to Monday, 15th inst." Mr Penfold seconded the motion on the understanding that the dates mentioned be not inclusive—that the school be closed for a clear week. The motion was carried by three to two.
