The Public Service Association.

(by telegraph.) Wellington, March 19. At the Annual meeting of the Public Service Association of New Zealand held to-night Mr J. Ashcroft, in moving the adoption of the report, regretted that more progress had not been made with the important question of obtaining classification for the Service, but said that there were good reasons why this matter should not have been pressed forward unduly. He expressed deep regret at the retirement of the president Mr J. G. Fitzgerald, who had done yeoman service for the Association. The Rev. W. J. Habens also pain a high tribute to Mr Fitzgerald for the services he had rendered the Association, and as- Mr Fitzgerald left the platform at the close of the meeting all present rose to their feet arid accorded him round after round of applause. The Rev. W. J. Habens was elected president, Colonel Hume (Wellington), Mr H. W. Bishop (Christchurch), Mr C W. S. Chamberlain (Dunedin) vice-presidents.
