INTERPROVINCIAL NEWS.
(by telegraph.) (per press association.) WELLINGTON. March 20. Spencer George Radford, importer, was charged to-day by the Customs Department, with importing nine packages containing goods not corresponding with the entry thereof, for which the Customs claimed LIOO penalty. The case was adjourned until Wednesday. A fire at Greytown North destroyed Hebby's boot shop and Wood's auction rooms. The former was insured for L 575 in the Standard, Victoria, and Imperial. The loss is estimated at L3OO above that amount. The fire originated in a bedroom upstairs at Hebby's, and is supposed to have been accidental. WOODVTLLE. March 20. Mr Kirk, of the Agricultural Department, arrived yesterday to inspect the diseased potato crop. He reports that the crop is a failure this year through Hawke's Bay and the West Coast, resulting in the loss of many thousands to the farmers.
