WAIMATE RACES. The annual St. Patrick's Day fixture of the Waimate Club was brought off yesterday under very favorable circumstances. The weather was excellent and as the fields were good and the finishes close in many instances some real good sport was provided. There was a good attendance, some 150 visitors from Oamaru going up by the early train to swell the local and Timaru contingents. Speculation, too, was remarkably brisk a sum of LI, 500, a record for the meeting we understand, being put through the machine. Punters had a regular field day, the favourites getting home race after race until the closing event, when the horse second in demand beat the favorite by a nose and closed a satisfactory day's outing. The stakes were fairly well divided a couple of races going to Timaru, two to Oamaru, and the remainder to the Waimate district. The management of the meeting was in every way satisfactory, the officials all working hard to make it a success. Mr T. Teschemaker wielded the starter's flag and was responsible for some really good send-offs.
