scholars been Mr A. G. Creagh, Committee, distributed Mr. Rice, headmaster, ia MRessing the school referred to the year's work in favorable terms, stating that the conduct had been good and progress satisfactory. He spoke in kindly terms of the assistance rendered him by the other members of the staff for which he returned his best thanks. He called attention to the honors' board presented him by an ex-Committeeman, Mr Winsloy, which gave the names and honors of all the dux boys and girls from 1878 (when Mr D. Bnick, M.H.R., was dux boy) down to 1893, and the other honors they had attained to, the board being half filled. In conclusion he called for hearty cheers for the Committee and the Chairman (Mr Creagh). Mr Creagh in jeturning thanks impressed upon the parents the importance of sending their children to school regularly in order that they might take the fullest advantage of an education system provided by the State, which was said to be the best in the world. If they did this their children would reap the advantage in after life. Addressing the scholars he advised them to look upon the teachers as, next to their parents, their best friends. He them that if they neglected the opportunity of getting a good education they would regret it. Some of them he noticed had not been successful this year in obtaining prizes, but that did not indicate that they had not done their best, and they must not be discouraged in consequence of failure but persevere next year and they would meet with greater success. He announced that Mr Shrimski had promised a gold medal for the kindest boy or girl in the South School next year. Mr Rice announced that the School would re-open on the 28th January and in dissmissing them wished all "A merry Christmas and a happy New Year." He hoped all would eat and play well and come back to work again with plenty of muscle and sinew.
