Waimate.
(FROM OUR OWN C'OKKESI'ONDENT.) The Wesleyan Church Sunday School held its annual picnic in Knottingly Park oil Anniversary Day, it being well attended. The children were conveyed to tre ground in vehicles, and spent a most enjoyable afternoon. A few drops of rain fell, but the trees afforded shelter.
The Sunday School picnic in connection with Knox Church, Waimate, was held at the Point Bush on Friday last. There was a large attendance of children and their friends. Games were indulged in by the children, who were afterwards provided with refreshments. A few showers fell throughout the afternoon, but the bush gave excellent shelter, and the rain interfered very little with the picnic. All present enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The annual prize firing in connection with the Waimate Rifle Volunteers was held on the Point Bush range. The following were the chief scorers :
A five-mile bicycle handicap, under the auspices of the Waiinale Cycling Club, was held in Victoria Park 011 the 15th inst. There were ten entries, but only four started, viz. : Appleby (300 yards behind scratch), M'Phepson (scratch), M'Leod (200 yards), and M'Go wan (400 yards). After a well-contested race M'Leod won, M'Gowan second. Time, 16min 41 3-sth sec.
