The Kurow Library Bazaar.

(FROM our own correspondent.) A well-attended meeting of ladies was held at Kurow on Saturday last for the purpose of forming a ladies' committee to conduct the bazaar to l)e held for the benefit of the Kurow and Hakateramea Library and Reading-room. The President (Mr A. T. Miller) presided, and said that a nmnber of letters had been received from ladies throughout the district expressing their regret at not being able to attend the meeting, but promising every assistance that lay in their power, thus showing that the ladies were in sympathy with the movement. He had j himself canvassed the whole of the Upper Waitaki and Hakateramea districts, and had succeeded in getting subscribers to the Library. He had also been promised a number of good and useful articles, etc., for the bazaar, amongst them being a piano, valuable pictures, lamp, chairs, tables, cattle, sheep, a pig, chaff, oats, wheat, coal, etc. Stall holders were appointed, and the bazaar, which is to be held about the third or fourth week in October, promises to be attended by the greatest success. There can now be 110 doubt that the matter of a reading room for Kurow will soon be an accomplished fact. Mr Miller, in a few well-chosen remarks, thanked the ladies for their attendance, also Mrs Delargy for her kind hospitality in having provided tea and cake for the ladies and gentlemen who were present. A hearty vote of thanks to Mr Miller for presiding at the meeting, and for the great interest he was taking in the library movement, with a view to establishing a library on a sound basis, was carried, and the meeting closed.
