Mr Hatch's Gratitude.

(by telegraph.)

I>vercakgill, September 21. _ There is trouble over Hatch s seal skin venture. It appears that owing to the Customs having intimated that they would seize any skins arriving in the colony after the closing of the season on the 31st ult., and Hatch's ketch Gratitude coining in after that date, the skins had been deposited on Stewart Island until the intentions of the Customs were ascertained. Some men of the party are now alleged to have removed about 300 skins, valued at LIOOO, and converted them to their own use, the allegation being that they have sold them to a third party without Hatch's knowledge. It is said that the Harbor Board's tug was employed by the men to remove the skins, and Hatch talks about suing the Board. A warrant was issued for the apprehension of one of the sealers named Andrew Newton, who is said to be implicated, and who was arrested at Arrowtown to-day. It is not certain what form the proceedings will take.
