CONCERT AT AWAMOKO.
A very snccessfnl concert in aid of the library funds was held in the Bchoolhouae, Awamoko, on Thursday evening last, A number of Oamaru friends attended, and a capital programme was arranged. Miss Maiuland, Miss L, Mainland, and Mibs Brownlee, and Messrs Lawrenaon, Slater, Gardiner, and Fraer were the looal performers. Mr Lawrenaon opened the proceedings with a pianoforte aolo—the overture to " Maritana " ; and later on this gentleman saog two songs—" The Romany Lass" and " The Arab's Trotb." The Misses Mainland sang as a dnet "The wind and the harp." Mlbs L. Mainland also sang a dnet with Mr Lawrenaon, "Life's dream is o'er," and a solo, "Jessie, the flower of Damblane." Miss Brownlee sang "Jeaeie'a dream" and "The song that reached my heart," for the latter of which Bhe received an encore, replying with " Comln' thro' the rye," and she also took part in a dnet with Mr Fraer entitled " Very improper indeed," which elicited an encore, the dnettists obliging with " Money matters." Mr G. Gardiner sang " Good Rhine wine," giving " The land o' the Lsal" in response to an encore, and later in the evening he sang " The young brigade." Messrs A. Slater and Fraer sang a number of comic songs daring the evening, which added an element of fan to the entertainment, and conduced greatly to the satisfaction of the audience. A number of songs and choruses were also given, Miss L. Mainland taking the solo parts. Votes of thanks to the Oamaru performers and to the audienca were passed, and the concert closed with the singing of the National Anthem. The customary dance was then engaged in, the ladies of the district kindly supplying admirable refreshments.
