(bt telegraph.) Aucklasd, August 31. The cutter South Carolina lef; Maori Bay, Great Birrier Island yesterday morning, for Auckland. At about 3 p.m., when off the Pigeon Rocks, a tremendous siuall from the south-weat struck tho cutter with great force and she filled and sank. The craw (five in number) to.,k to the dinsy, aod the steamer lona, which was fortunately just coming past, rescued them from their perilous position. The cutter was owned by Captain Soars, who was on board, and, as the vessel was uninsured, he haa lost his all.
