WRECK OF THE COLONIST.
(BT TELEGRAPH.) Wellisotos, August 31. The ketch Colonist, bound from Lyttulton to Waitara, went ashore off the old pilot station at ab">ut eleven o'clock this Three of the crew inclndiog the ciptiin, (cams unknown) were drowned. There was only one survivor, who stated that the vessel lost her rudder off Cape Campbell yesterday and that tho captain decided to run for Wellington before a southerly g.ile. Ho made she Old Pilot S:ati»n this morning, dropped anchor and rode at anchor for a short time, and wis riding safely when the Tarawera passed at about 9.30. About an hour afterwards the anchor dragged and the vessel went on to the rocks In a heavy sea and immediately broke op. The crew c insisted of tho captain and throe men, ail of whom were drowned but one. The captain's body has been washed ashore. Liter. It has been ascertained that the captain's n*cci! was C»yly. The survivor's name h yet unknown, as ho lies In an exhausted condition at a fisherman's hut neir the scene of the wreck. Nor aro the names cf the o'.her members of tho crew yet known. One was not a regular band, but was working his passage.
