HOLIDAY PROCEEDINGS AT OTIAKE.
(FROM OTJK OWN CORRESPONDENT.) A most successful gathering took place at Otiake on Boxing D-<y in a paddock lent by Mr.Aikenhead. By mid-day there were fully 200 persons preaant, and the first supply of tea and cakes was handed round. At one o'clock all the children attending che Otiake achool were invited to draw for prizes, which consisted of a great variety of toys. Games for both old and young were got up daring the afternoon, and the whole of the events were well and earnestly contested. In this manner the afternoon was passed pleasantly until four o'clock, when a general move was made towards the tent to partake of a plentiful repast of edibles, with which this part (f the proceedings concluded. Here it may be mentioned I that great oredit is due to the oommittee iof management, for everything passed off most successfully, and all seemed to be well satisfied. After a hearty vote of thanks Tiad been accorded to Mr Aikenhead for the use of his ground, some went home, but the greater number proceeded to the local echoolhouse, where a free concert and ball was given by the committee. Tea was again provided from seven to eight o'clock, when Mr Dealer took the chair, and announced the first item on the programme to be a violin overture by Messrs Robertson and Renny. After this, songs were given by Misses Grant and Milmine, Messrs Scott, Robertson, M'lonis, and Davidson, a reading by Miss Bartie, and step dancing by Mr Dyke. At the close of the coucert, dancing was commenced and kept up till three o'clock in the morning, Mr M'lnnis acting as M.C. "Anld Lang Syna" brought a most enjoyable gathering to a close.
