FATAL BOAT ACCIDENT.

(BY TELEGRAPH.) December 27. Further particulars respecting the boating accident, which resulted in the drowning of H. P. Bankhart, J. Armstrong, H. Hxmmond, and R. J. Denby, show that thpy set out in the yacht Truant from St. Gdorgt'a Qaay at 7 a.m. yesterday, intending to go to Matakana. The yacht belonged to y< ung Hammond, and the others left tbe handling of the vessel to the o»nar. Strong wiuds were blowing all day yesterday, and the sea was consequently very heavy; and abont 11 o'clock, when iha vessel was off Gull Point and io tbe Ringitoto Channel, she was strnck by a sudden squill, and instantly capsized and sank. The occupants of tbe yacht at once struck out for the shore, bnt only Richard Bankhart and G. J. Harker succeeded io reaching the land,i the other fonr above named being drowned. H. P. Bankbart, one cf the I unfortunate young men drowned in the accident, was an artist cf great ability, who had studied for some time at the Royal Academy, London, and at the South Kensington Set iol of Art. Ha arrived in May last from England, with the other members of his family, and was making arrangements to commence art education in this city. J. Armstrong and H. M. Hammond were well known in athletic circles, and R. J. Denby was an enthusiastic follower of art. A. search for the bodies has been commenced.
