WAIAREKA ROAD BOARD.

A meeting of the Waiareka Road Board ma held ynterd»y, when there were present—Messrs X>bn Reid (Chairman), M«ek, Menlove, ladale, and Todd. Messrs and C'fiigh wrote, in reply to (be B<>ard'a qarstion, stating chat Road Board) are not obliged to undertake the maintenance of any road if dedicated; bat if they proceeded to execute works on such a road, Ihey would be liable under the cireamataocea mentioned in their (Hislop sod Creagh'a) last letter on the •nbj'et. The Chairman said that, aa this wss a most important mat*.er, It would be aa well to come to aome resolution. Mr Todd proposed that the Chairman he requested to call * meeting of the joint Road Board Committees anent tbia question, to dr»ir up s reaolution for piesentatloo at next tn eting. It til resolved to confer with the Chairman of tbe Wailakl Riad Board, and eooTeoe a Committee meeting prior to the lleh January. Sir G<K>rge Bruce wrote, asking that the ford in th<* o*maru Creek leading to the Prcauix Mill be repaired, aa it bad been washed away by tbe l«t flood. The Clerk stated that the Waitaki Road Board bad undertaken tbe work, and bad asked that half payment be refunded. — Agreed to. Mr Todd asked whether tbe reaolution passed at laat meeting railing fresh fenders applied to road opposite Mr Falconer 1 * only. The Cleric replied in tbe affirmative. Mr Todd then explained that the 13 chain* of which ho asked for on the Fristoo Road waa to complete that already done ou tbe road through from EnSeld to Maheno. Tbia had not bean done tx fore for want of fond*. In bad weather this part of the road was impassable for want of metal. He said that if this work were done, tbe road could be used when tbe lower one was unfit for traffic.

The Chairman suggested tbat, as there was a difference of opinion as to which of the roads mentioned was moat io want of repair, tbe feeling of tbe ratepayers should be Ul>B upon tbe subject. Mr Todd thought this unnecessary, and proposed tbat tenders be again oiled for the work as a whole and separately. Aftsr a little discutsion,

Mr Menlove seconded the motion, and proposed to add that tenders bo called for the Barnside work at tbe same time.

Mr Todd agreed, and the motion was carried. Mr Meek reported that he and Mr Jackson bad waited oo the Waitaki ft aad Board, at ita last meeting, re the Airdale road being taken over by the County Council, and that that Board was agreeable to the proposal. He also said that the Waitaki Board waa of opinion that, with regard to Girrow's road, no lines should be recognised until a connection with some other road is shown. Oa the motion of Mr Todd, seconded by Mr Meek, the Clerk waa instrocted to Inform the County Council that the Board had paid L 9 16) 4i in forming Henderson's road, and ask it to open it through to Kakanui in accordanca with its memo received 29 ;h July. Accounts amounting to L 7314* 6i were pasaed for payment and tbe Heard adjourned.
