LICENSING COMMITTEE ELECTION.

, As we mentioned yesterday the election of Licensing Committees for the four I Oamaru districts yesterday created a good deal of interest. The publicans were particularly active in bringing .burgesses to the poll, and, as will be seen from the results given below, they succeeded in securing the return of the whole of their candidates in Thames, Severn, and Jetty districts. In Hull district they did not make any effort, for there not being a solitary licensed house of any kind in that division of the town, they were in no way interested in the result. The following was the voting in each district : OAMARU THAMES.

As three of the candidates tied for the two last seats, the substitute Returning Officer (Lord Reidhaven) gave hig casting vote in favor of Mr Barr and Major Evana, members of the late Licensing Committee, and the five first-named in the above list were declared elected. The same candidates having been nominated for each of the four districts it may be interesting to note the number of votes polled by each in the whole of the districts when combined.
