COURT NEWS.
(BY TELEGRAPH.) Auckland, March 21. The Hon. Ivo Bligh left on a visit to the Hot Inkes this morning. " King" Tawhaio returned to Waikato yesternight. TEE GOVERNOR AND TEE NORTHERN CHIEFS. (by telegraph.) Auckland, March 20. The Governor had a conference with the Northern chiefs at Hokianga yesterday. The natives gave him a most enthusiastic welcome, and one of the chiefs (Reitai) said, "We know ' you, kind Governor. You hav% governed other places, and now you are come here. I have nothing else to ; say. Thanks for coming here. I am : sorry so short notice was given of your intended visit. It is reported that Tawhaio is going to England to ask the Queen to make him King of New Zealand. We do not recognise Tawhaio as having any authority over us. If the Queen appoints him King it will cause disturbance among us. ' We do not want Tawhaio." The Governor suitably replied. He subsequently received an address of welcome from the residents of Russell. The Governor will visit Kaipara before coming south again.
