A curious samplo of Government economy can now bo seen at tho mouth of tho Ngaruroro Rivor, which was cutting into tho land and threatening tho railway, Tho County Council undertook certain protective works, tho railway department paying half costs. A few days ago tho , department refused to continue its cor tributton, so tho Council ceasod work (On \ discharged all tho men. Tho department thereupon took up tho works, and are now carrying thorn out on the sarno lines, bearing tho whole coat. Tho County Council are very pleased at this turn of affairs.
