AUCKLAND. July 22. A passenger named George JParkes was robbed of Lll on the passage of the Ladybird from Tauranga to Auckland. Suspicion fell 011 a fellow-passenger named Fred. Hudson, who has been arrested and committed for trial.
Jeremiah and Maurice Regan, and John M : Carthy have been charged with the robbery of LlO from the person of William Garside. M'Carthy and Jeremiah Regan were committed for trial, 'and Maurice Regan was discharged. Richards' Opera" Company left for Duiiedin by the Ladybird. ; The sale of the hull of the Taupo fey Tonks an.4 Co. was started at LSQO,: and she was eventually sold at LI4OO to Mr. Winter, wine merchant.
CHRISTCHURCH. July 22. A sample of winter barley, quite ripe, was shown in town yesterday. It was sewn in January, at South Rangitata, and reaped last week. A seaman of the ship Soukar, loading with ballast, was yesterday knocked over by q. basket, and fell 2.4 feet down the main hold. He escaped, fortunately, with a severe shaking. The work of stripping the female trout for ova has commenced. It is anticipated that nearly 80,000 eggs will be obtained. Mr. W. M. Hannay, the n.ewly-ap-pointed manager for the Temuka.-Palmer-ston section of the railway, was yesterday presented with a handsome timepiece, with an elegant plated teapot added, for Mrs. Hannay. Mr. Hannay left this morning fc.r Oamaru, where he will in future reside.
