CRICKET.

OAMABTT C.C. V. DUNEDIN ALBION C.C. A cricket match between the above Clubs was played on the new Cricket Ground on New Year's Day, and resulted in a victory for the home team by 59 runs. Oamaru having won the toss, elected to go in, and Messrs. Sumpter and Cooke were the first to handle the willow for Oamaru, but the latter soon fell a victim to Sheppard, was was succeed by Nichols, who put together 11 before he was disposed of. Dr. De Lautour next followed, and some good play was shown on his part, which caused several changes to be made in the bowling. The latter was caught at square leg by Hutchinson, after having made a steady innings for 17. Dr. De Lautour, after making 11, succumbed to a good ball from Duckmanton. The only other stand of the innings was between G. and J. Millington, who put together 11 and 7 respectively. The first innings of the Oamaru Eleven closed for the respectable total of 83. The Dunedin men now handled the bat, but the bowling of Messrs Lowe and G. Millington was first-class, and the wickets fell fast. Fowler scored 9 after some very careful play. Hutchinson made 7, Duckmanton 6, Buckland 5. The innings closed for 41, or 42 to the bad. The Oamaru Becond innings only totalled 35, the bowling of Blanchard proving very destructive, his analysis showing 7 wickets for 20 runs. Dr. De Lautour made the best stand of the innings, and put together 17 after some exceedingly good play. Cooke made 5, Borton and Tempest 4 each. The Dunedin men had now 79 to get to win, and they seemed confident of doing it, but wicket after wicket fell to Millington and Lowe, who bowled in first-class style, almost every ball being dead on the wicket, and the Dunedin men were disposed of for the small total of 18. Fowler played well for his 6, and was bowled by a splendid ball from G. Millington. The ground was in good condition, and the weather all that could be desired, but the spectators were not numerous.
