He began smartly, had the rails all the way, but when within a furlong of home he was well beaten, fourth place being the best he could do.

Sarsaparilla began quickly and obtained a good lead over the first furlong of the Winslow Handicap at Ashburton. But after trotting -.veil for half a mile he made a break for nothing. This, ruined his chance.
