A SEASON
pHRISTCHURCH has more than ** its fair share of the hoodlum element. Gangs and pushes- of callow youths whose pastime is making a regular pest of themselves to all and sundry are the plague of most of the suburbs. i . Leader of "a band of yahoos" at St. Martins —as Senior Sergeant Martin described them —Herbert Harding has had a lesson from Magistrate Lawry which should take the sting out of his swashbuckling conduct for some time to come. His gang made Its way into May's orchard at St. Martins and when May came on the scene -he was roughly handled and Harding unburdened himself of some lurid language m the hearing of women and children. But for /the fact that he was slightly muddled with drink at the time Harding would haye 'gone to gaol. j He was fined £10. He was given a month to pay as he is out of work. "If you cannot, pay m a month you will .go to gaol. . If you don't want to go there borrow the money," said the magistrate sternly. \
