The only reason given for her appearance before Magistrate Page at Wellington last week on three charges of theft was that she had a mania for giving presents to others. She comes of respectable parents, has a good position and quite a substantial banking account. She never attends dances, is cleanliving and indulges m no frivolity whatever.. . One small blot is smeared across her otherwise excellent character and that is a previous conviction for theft. Not a criminal by nature, not a criminal by desire— but just an impulsive creature, bent on giving happiness to others and unable to resist temptation.
