BIG SURPRISE

Waimalao's Failure

LICKED AT THE SECOND

One of the biggest surprises of the Otaki meeting was the shocking running of Waimatao m the Hurdles.

On Trentham form last month Waimatao looked next door to a certainty for the Hurdles the first day at Otaki, and the public were not slow to appreciate this fact, with the result that he was sent out a short-priced favorite.

With everything m his favor, all thought that Waimatao would jump to the front and never lose his position. But he didn't.

He never got near the front, and it is no stretch of the imagination to^ say he was licked at the second fence.

For the rest of the journey he was never m the hunt, and the field was many removes from that of Trentham. Perhaps it is old age creeping on.
