Jazz Boy Versus Flapper

The flapper (writes Sydney "Truth") has received many cruel prods from the pens of those dear old ladies and gentlemen known to the world through the press as "Pro Bono Publico" and "Constant Reader." For many moons (.heso misguided ancients, have arraigned her vices before the public eye m an endeavor to prove her a Wight upon society m general.

But nothing is said of the boy flapper — the gay young man who wears a skirted coat with a split up the back; the empty-headed young man who wraps his neck around with a fourinch collar and a huge necktie that resembles the aurora borealis or a Turner sunset, and gets his hair cut m the same manner as a horse is clippered.'-

To this strange attire he adds a pair of gaudy socks, a green or pink handkerchief, and an overcoat decorated at odd little places with a multitude of pockets and imitation pockets.

We hear nothing of his vices and virtues, for nobody writes letters to the papers m an attempt to show that he is a blight upon the earth.

Yet, if his brains were examined through a microscope they would probably be observed as the size of a pinhead. His knowledge of current topics is confined to what horses look like certainties at Randwick, or where is the best place to g-et beer on Sundays. He reads a wild-west yarn about twice a year, a race-book once or twice a week, and the sport pages of the dailies every night.

■ When it comes to the question of which is the blight upon the world, the flapper . girl, or the flapper boy, the girl takes a back seat.
