When fining a young man named Lewis Alexander McDonald 40/- vii a charge of drunkenness on Thursday of last week, his Worship remarked that his record was a bad one, f.nd warned him that if he offended again m the near future he would not be dealt with "by a fine. Defendant: Can I have time to pay, sir? . His Worship: What have the police got to say to that? . Senior Sergeant Quarter-main: We have always found the man a <?ood payer m the past. Seven days were allowed m wmch to pay, but the time was not needed, for the following morning McDonald was again called on to answer a charge of drunkenness. Sub Inspector O'Halloran: This man now admits that he can't resist his craving for drink and asks that he be sent to Rot.o-Roa for a term of twelve months. McDonald's request was granted and he left the box with a grateful "thank you" to his Worship. : She: "I wonder why they hung that picture?" • He: "Perhaps they couldn't catch the artist."
