CONDITIONS FRAMED

For "Truth" Championship Belt

Three weeks back "Truth" announced that the Trustees of the estate of the late John Norton had, on a recent visit to New Zealand, donated i championship belt for competition. This week we publish the conditions governing the belt, which is at present m the hands of one oJL' New Zealand's leading jewellers. The conditions are as under: — ,1. : The belt shall be . emblematic of the championship of New Zealand m the lightweight class. 2. The belt shall be fought for at intervals, as decided by New .■" Zealand "Truth," who reserve full right to approve, or otherwise, of contenders for the trophy. 3. The belt shall become the permanent property of any one contestant who may win three matches m succession or five at intervals. • • *■ . ' 4. The holder of the New Zealand "Truth" championship belt must, except m time of sickness, when a certificate regarding ' the bona-fides of the case will be required from a medical man to be nominated by New Zealand "Truth," accept a challenge from a properly qualified aspirant for the title involved, tho genuineness of whose credentials shall be determined by New :. Zealand "Truth," and enter the ring again within such time •. as New Zealand "Truth" shall decide. 5. Only a British, or a naturalised British subject, who has been such, and has resided within the Dominion of New Zealand, for not less than twelve months, may compete for the New Zealand ".Truth" championship belt. ■' 6. The belt will at all time until won' outright m accordance with these, conditions, remain the sole property of the. 'New Zealand "Truth" newspaper, but the holder: for the .time being shall be entitled to the custody thereof;. ;whilerhe is the holder. 7. The belt shall be fought/under what are now recognised as ;• , The Marquis of Queensberry Rules.";ln the event of a dispute '•'arising' concerning'- the ring official or regarding any difference of opinion, or action created; by some undue occurrence, or aught else, the New Zealand "Truth" newspaper reserves'itself the right to determine the holder, of the belt or what shall be done .insofar as the holding or forfeiting of the belt temporarily or permanently be concerned. 9. The winner of any bout for which the New Zealand "Truth" championship belt is given shall, where at all possible, be invested with his new won prize, immediately after the declaration, m his favor. s 10.
