COLLINS'S GREAT DISPLAY.
' Approaches DquWe Century. , Wellington's first innings was featured, by the batting of Collins, who compiled, his score- of 172 by •bright cricket. He was consistently careful and while there were stages m his occupation of the crease when he hit out heartily there was also a spell of forty minutes m which only a dozen runs were added. He gave a possible chance to Anthony; m the slips when his score was well on but no fault could be found with his batting. He gave a sparkling variety of strokes, showing no preference but treating each delivery on its merits and very little loose stuff escaped his lengthy reach. The most profitable stand by the southerners was the association
of Collins and Prince, the latter lending valuable support to his skipper by tiring tactics while Collins did' the scoring. At the same time Prince's 35 were weir gathered. ■ • ■ . ■ ■
