Prospectus of Third Competition.

On page Ift. of this issue will be found the prize list of the second '"Brain Waves" competition. Not only >ere the efforts sent m much better generally than the- previous lot, but there was an inciease of 50 per cent, m the entries. This bears out the Syndicate's opinion, that ■ "Brain Waves" had only to be known to become at once popular, and it is confidently expected that the third competition, announced m this issue, will attract much greater support, even. It is hoped that this will be the case, so that the competitions may be selfsupporting-, and also enable the prize money to be increased to at least £ 100, and the competitions to bo hold weekly,> "Brain Waves" are not only a fascinating: pastime, but also a liberal education. Anybody can make them and they. can bo made anywhere, without interfering at all with what one Is doing 1 . Among: the lust competition was tho following: Example, Mixed Bathing: Brain Wave, "Form at a glance" — simplo. but very appropriate. The effort which took lirst prizo m really clever: Minister of Education, "In loco Parr-entls." The Latin saying "m loco parentls," signifying' a guardian or schoolmaster standing Jn the place of a father, fits m so appropriately with Mr. Parr as Minister of Education. There were dozens ■. of "below Parr" and "above Parr" sent In, but they were not applicable to the Minister who qould not • very -„ well be either above or below himself. Several winners In the first competition wrote to inquire if prizo winners were eligible to win again. Certainly they are. One lady took 5/- and 2/6 m No. 1 Compotlrlon and Jn the aeconU secured the third prize. &Z 10s.
