SHOULD THEY BE RETIRED?

N Dear "Truth',' — Would it not be better to place some of our returned soldiers, whose health is not too robust, into- the positions now filled .by elderly men m and about Parliament Buildings? Some of these old folks are fairly well off; others look forward to the session to assist to keep them from want during the rest of the year. But m a number of cases they are nearing the end or their tether so far as work is concerned and should be given a rest so as to make way for other deserving cases. I. do not advocate harsh relega- ; tion to the scrap-heap. What Ido suggest, is that where' such action is warranted the old fellows should be pensioned off. It is quite pathetic to see the physical and mental distress of some of these worthy old fellows at rush times. I am, etc., PENSION.
