Boxing is booming down this way; and everyone, from the small boy to the staid business man, is taking up the sport. It looks as if the Southland Boxing Association is m for a successful future. - ■ \ ■

F. Harvey, welterweight, is getting into fine trim, and it is expected he will make a good showing at theVN.Z.

Amateur Championships this month

Fritz Holland is meeting with great Success hi his various classes here. He has thirty pupils m the boys' class, and the same number of men. Among these showing promise m the latter class are W. J. Sycamore (feather), S. Harvey (feather), E. McNeil (light), .and- F.Harvey (welter). E. McQuarrie, Sycamore, F. Harvey and McNeil will represent Southland at the N.Z. Championships. .

Some foi'ty business men are' on. F. Holland's roll here, and he considers his present classes among the most successful m j his career. As showing the popularity of his teaching it may be mentioned that among those receiving tuition from him are some of the leading professional and business men m the town, including prominent legal and -medical lights. Two of,- our "fighting" councillors are, reported to be making excellent, progress m the noble art. Fritz's fame as a teacher, brings him pupils from Dunedin, as several commercial travellers from the Dour City are taking lessons.

News of Paul McQuarrie's win over McCJeary m the heavyweight championship was well received here, but t;he general opinion seemed to be that he was somewhat lucky; Still, he fought a very plucky fight considering that he injured his hand early "m, the fight. Under doctor's orders McQuarrie will not be able to fight for eight weeks. '

■ There seems to be every prospect of some good fights , down this . way m the future, and it is to be hoped the S.B.A. wjill stage a few professional bouts ere long.
