WORKING ON WRONG LINES.

. Dear. "Truth,"— Probably the most foolish thing that has ever been done is being done by the great philanthropists of the day. They spend and give away millions of dollars annually to alleviate the sufferings of humanity and for exhaustive research to discover some medicine that will cure the sick, and yet they spend the same amount to destroy an agent whose objects are to attain the same end. An ounce of prevention is worth a. -pound of cure. When the United States drove the yellow fever out of Cuba, the typhoid out of the Philippines, and the fever and the ague out of the Panama Canal zone they eradicated the source, and then proceeded to find a cure for what few cases were left. If those great institutions who are subsidised by the milMonaires will spend more money to prevent these diseases and less to cure them their money will go many times as far, .and m a short time will produce results a hundredfold. The source of ninety per cent., of the sickness and crimes m this world can be traced back to that greatest of evils, "Poverty." — Yours, etc., "H.A.M." Wellington.
