Fine Professional Fight.

The star turn at the Nelson Association's fourth tournament last week /was the professional contest between Paul Hannah (Hastings) and Carl Calloway (Wellington), for a purse of £150. The match was fought in' fifteen three-minute rounds. Calloway took the ring at lOst. l%;b. and Hannah scaled 9st. 111 b. After a cautious opening Calloway took the first round by forceful fighting. In the next two rounds Hannah did most of the .fighting and m both nearly put Calloway through the ropes. Hannah took the next two by a narrow margin of points, both men boxing vigorously. In, the sixth Hannah bored m and brought Calloway to hds knees. The seventh saw Calloway open out with a furious rally that kept Hannah on the skip. Hannah got m a good but futile upper-cut. and the round went to .Calloway. In round eight both combatants went for a k.o. and there were several, narrow escapes from an "out" on both sides. Hannah's round. Following on' Hannah brought his opponent down, and Calloway's pushing tactics appeared to worry him less. Calloway was momentarily down m the tenth, but was quickly going again at top, and easily took the round. The eleventh and twelfth rounds were marked by hard, bright fighting and Calloway took them both, but the thirteenth was halved, as was the fourteenth, after a good- mix-up, characterised by some hefty swings. When the bell went for the last round excritement was at fever height. Calloway missed an attempted' k.0., and infighting followed with no advantage. Hannah then landed heavily and Calloway took the count for two. He slipped again and Hannah made a bold bid for a k.0., but the Wellington boy was too elusive. A mix-up on the ropes followed, and the round ended even, the decisdon going to Hannah amid general applause.
