She is seen as Madelon, a girl of the' west, who lives m a remote village, amidst the towering redwoods, iwhere it is the primitive custom "for "parents to betroth their daughters at birth. As Madelon grows to beautiful womanhood, the promised (f bride of Lot Gordon, she finds that she has no love for him, but loves instead his cousin, Burr. Being a high-spirited and passionate girl, she upsets 4he traditions of her 'race and refuses to marry Lot. An unfortunate incident occurs which casts the suspicion, of a terrible crime on Burr. Lot alone can clear his name, and this lie refuses to do unless Madelon consents to marry him. To save her lover's life she agrees, and as the day for her wedding draws near, she resigns herself to her unhappy fate. At the last moment, as she has given up all hope of a release from her hateful promise, an .incident happens which changes the whole situation and gives her the freedom for which she has longed. The romance ends m her happy marriage with Burr. In conjunction with this feature the management announce a further instalment of the celebrated "Fatty" Arbuckle comedies. This time the subject is "Love."
